Canada is home to thousands of beetle species, but only a small number commonly become pests in homes and businesses. Some of the most frequently encountered include carpet beetles, weevils, grain beetles, and other stored-product beetles. While many beetles are beneficial to the environment, pest species can damage property, contaminate food, and become difficult to eliminate once established.

Depending on the species, beetles may feed on stored food products, natural fibres, wood, or organic materials. They are often found in kitchens, pantries, warehouses, food processing facilities, and homes where suitable food sources are available. Some species, such as carpet beetles, can damage clothing, rugs, upholstery, and other household fabrics, while grain and pantry beetles contaminate dry food products.
