Mice
Size: 2–4 inches (including tail)
Colour: Light brown to grey with a lighter underside
The house mouse is one of the most common rodent pests found throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Highly adaptable and fast-breeding, mice can quickly establish themselves inside homes and businesses in search of food, water, and shelter. While they are active year-round, infestations often become more noticeable during the fall and winter as cooler temperatures drive them indoors.
Mice are commonly found in homes, restaurants, warehouses, offices, and commercial buildings. Despite their small size, they can squeeze through openings as small as 6 mm (about the width of a pencil), making it easy for them to enter through gaps around pipes, doors, vents, and foundations.
In addition to contaminating food with droppings and urine, mice can spread bacteria, trigger allergies, and introduce parasites such as fleas and mites. They are also known for chewing electrical wiring, insulation, and other building materials, increasing the risk of costly property damage and even electrical fires.
Because mice reproduce rapidly, successful control requires more than just traps or bait. At PreventX, we use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach that combines a thorough inspection, strategic treatments, exclusion recommendations, and ongoing monitoring to help eliminate infestations and prevent them from returning.
