Spiders are a common pest found throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. While many spider species are beneficial because they help control other insect populations, they can become an unwanted nuisance when they build webs around homes and businesses or appear frequently indoors.

Spiders are often found in quiet, sheltered areas such as basements, garages, crawl spaces, sheds, corners, and around windows and doors. They are attracted to areas where other insects are present, as these provide a reliable food source. During the cooler months, spiders may move indoors seeking warmth and protection from changing outdoor conditions.

Most spiders found around homes are not considered dangerous, although some species can deliver a painful bite if disturbed. In British Columbia, certain species such as the western black widow are present and should be treated with caution.

Reducing spider activity starts with addressing the conditions that attract them. Sealing entry points, reducing insect activity, removing webs, and keeping outdoor areas maintained can all help prevent spiders from becoming a recurring problem.

At PreventX, our technicians can identify spider activity, locate contributing factors, and provide professional treatments designed to reduce existing spider populations and help prevent future infestations around your home or business.
