Wasps are one of the most common stinging pests found throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Unlike bees, wasps have smooth, slender bodies with a narrow waist and very little body hair. Because they can sting multiple times and aggressively defend their nests, they pose a greater risk to homeowners, businesses, employees, and anyone spending time outdoors.

Wasps commonly build nests beneath roof eaves, inside wall voids, under decks, in sheds, trees, shrubs, and even underground. Their activity increases throughout the summer, with colonies reaching their largest size in late summer and early fall. During this time, wasps become more defensive and are more likely to sting when their nest is disturbed.

While a single sting is painful, multiple stings or allergic reactions can become a serious medical concern. Attempting to remove a wasp nest without the proper equipment and experience can be dangerous, particularly when large colonies are involved.
